SILC is seeking an experienced teacher trainer/supervisor at INTELP (the INTERLINK Namouthajiah Tatweer English Language Program, managed and supervised by SILC/YU), a teacher training program at the renowned Al Tarbiya Namouthajiah high schools in Riyadh. The INTELP team (a Director and 8 Supervisors) has been at Al Tarbiayh Al Namouthajiah Schools since October 2010, upgrading the pedagogical skills of the Namouthajiah English language faculty.

The Applicant chosen will have the following duties:

  • Provide teacher training programs at Namouthajiah, using and adhering to key concepts, principles, guidelines and main tenets of the INTERLINK curriculum.
  • Supervise teachers’ activities in class, offering assistance and guidance.
  • Assist Program Director with the development of teacher training materials/resources for workshops and any other necessary training sessions.
  • Design professional development curricula/plans and implement them through various media, including workshops, small and large group training sessions, team-teaching, and one-on-one meetings.
  • Administer materials and assignments needed for Needs Analysis.
  • Assist with the Teacher Performance Management program through teacher observations and feedback
  • T each 10 hours weekly and visit as many classes as possible or as required by the INTELP Project Director. A possible weekly program may be as follows:
  • Sat/Mon/Wed: 7 – 2
  • Sun/Tues: 7-1pm and 5 to 8; or
  • 8-1pm on Thursday morning
  • Adapt (demonstrating how to adapt) lessons to different levels of learning ability within a group
  • Monitor behavior to instill discipline and productivity conducive to learning English in an interactive, heuristic, discovery-based way.
  • Coach (and help teachers coach) individual students and groups, promoting development of social skills through group interaction.
  • Prepare students for and conduct (inter)national and state standardized tests and assessments.
  • Encourage understanding of and respect for cultural diversity, and social mores among students and teachers.
  • Initiate and lead extra-curricular activities –such as English clubs- to foster further interaction and use of the English language.

Position Requirements

Candidates must have:

  1. Excellent communication skills -- both speaking and writing

(Applicant must be a native English speaker or possess advanced degrees from an English-speaking country.)

  1. Master’s or higher degree in TESL or education with focus on TESL
  2. Demonstrated leadership skills in teacher training, supervision, and community building
  3. Proven problem solving, decision making, and creative thinking skills
  4. Strong organizational and computer skills with the ability to handle numerous details
  5. Excellent interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills
  6. Excellent rapport-building skills and experience with students (ages 6 to 18) and teachers in all subject areas
  7. Ability to adapt to a way of life requiring understanding, conformity and flexibility
  8. Experience with mainstream education
  9. An understanding of the student-centred classroom and clear sympathy with the SILC approach and philosophy
  10. Cultural awareness and culturally appropriate behaviour and dress essential for this forward-looking yet conservative Saudi educational establishment
  11. Commitment to a two-year contract

Preference will be given to individuals with:

  1. Proficiency in a second language, preferably Arabic
  2. Previous work in leadership roles at institutions of higher education
  3. Demonstrated work experience in English language or other educational programs

Salary, Benefits and Terms

o Commensurate with experience, the salary range is $45K-$50K per annum.
  1. 60 days paid vacation at the end of the contract period plus 5 days for Eid Al Adha (religious holiday) and 5 days break between semesters
  2. Round-trip transportation to and from Saudi Arabia
  3. Furnished housing (two-bedroom apartment)

  6. 5% end-of-service bonus for contract completion
