Teaching Fellowships Available

Marlboro College Graduate School and INTERLINK Language Centers with its partners are pleased to announce teaching fellowships for 2014-15. The fellowship is designed to prepare qualified and innovative teachers of English who base their instruction on learners and learning, communicative use of language, cultural understanding, group learning, and reflective practice.

Fellows enhance their teaching effectiveness by completing Marlboro’s MAT in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (MAT – TESOL) and teaching an INTERLINK curriculum. Fellowships consist of two summers of full-time study in Vermont, USA, which is complemented by online study between summers and two years of full-time teaching in Saudi Arabia.

An optional track in Leadership and Supervision is available for those who supervise teachers.

BENEFITS

  • Fifty percent (50%) of fellow’s graduate tuition, $10,840 (USD), will be contributed by INTERLINK
  • Monthly fellowship stipend of $2,500 for the first academic year of teaching (September 2014 – June 2015)
  • Base salary of $37,000, per annum, plus other salary credits when degree requirements are completed
  • Additional salary credits for superior proficiency in a second language, Peace Corps service, previous TESOL experience in the Arab countries, and others
  • Bonus of 5% for each year of teaching service completed
  • Round-trip transportation to and from Saudi Arabia each year (valued at $2,000 – 4,000)
  • Local transportation to and from campus each day (valued at $2,500)
  • Furnished housing (two-bedroom apartments are shared by two instructors; valued at $16,000)
  • Medical insurance in KSA, with 10% co-pay (valued at $5,000)
  • Work visa and residency permit (valued at $5,000)
  • Local holidays, plus paid 45-day annual vacation
  • Annual contract (renewable contingent upon instructor’s performance and continuation of the program)

QUALIFICATIONS

Required

  1. 1.Bachelor’s degree
  2. 2.Minimum one-year ESL or EFL teaching experience with adult learners
  3. 3.Teaching experience with absolute beginning language learners
  4. 4.Native or native-like fluency in English with superior communication skills
  5. 5.Strong computer skills

Preferred

  1. 1.Commitment to students, the profession, and learner-centered teaching methods
  2. 2.Ability to adapt to a way of life requiring understanding, conformity, and flexibility
  3. 3.Experience with course management systems and/or use of technology in the classroom

CALENDAR

May 6 – June 26, 2014 On-line coursework (4-5 hours per week)

June 28 – August 23, 2014 Face-to-face coursework, Marlboro College Graduate School, USA

August 24, 2014 – June 2015 INTERLINK teaching, Saudi Arabia

June 2015 – August 2015 Residential coursework, Marlboro College

September 2015 – June 2016 INTERLINK teaching, Saudi Arabia

APPLICATION PROCEDURES

Stage One: Employment Qualification

Register at fellows.tvtcinterlink.net. Upload three references, resume, and other items as indicated. Application must be complete before January 31, 2014. Early application is strongly encouraged.

Stage Two: Academic Qualification

Open application at gradschool.marlboro.edu before January 31, 2014. Applicants not selected for Stage One may continue with the Marlboro application and enroll independently.
